The Softie Mount, used with the Softie Windshield provides a fast, flexible and cost effective solution for ENG use and forms a robust and practical windshield (70mm in diameter) which can be effectively used without the mount in handhels operation mode.

The Softie Windshield & Shockmount system comprises of the following:
Softie Windshield The Softie Windshield is a slip on open cell foam, with an integral fitted fur cover. The Softie will reduce wind noise and protect your microphone, and is the standard world-wide in TV. Available in a large range of sizes to fit most popular microphones.

Softie Mount The mount is a simple but effective. The mount comes in 3 sizes, dependant on the diameter of your microphone. The attachment below the mount is then determined by the intended use of the mount, for example Pistol grip handle, boom pole adaptor or the Multi Mount for use on a camcorders hotshoe.

The main component of the Softie mount is a one piece rubber (actual material: EPDM) diaphragm shockmount. This unit is extremely robust, and has been tested in all environment conditions to ensure it performs.

The mounts are 58mm diameter x 56mm long, and support short to medium length shotgun microphones. Please use the ''Quick Product Finder'' to see what size you need for your mic. The Softie mount will only fit shotgun microphones, which are cylindrical in shape (the same diameter though their whole length). We can not mount microphones that taper, with the Softie mount.

The longest Softie Windshields have an internal bore of 32cm (12-1/2'') - Example:AKG CK68 or Audio Technica AT815b. These are the longest microphones we would recomend using a Softie Mount for, simply because the mount is flexible & cannot support longer mics. For longer mics, we would only recomend a Full Windshield System, and a Modular suspension.

The Hi Wind Cover is designed to fit the Modular Windshield Kit to offer up to 35dB in wind noise reduction. It is manufactured from a durable black fleece material and is easy to fit in the field by simply sliding it over the Windshield basket, secured in place with Velcro pads.

Both the acoustic foam and synthetic fur are made from materials which are specially designed and manufactured for the purpose, and as a result up to 25 dB of wind-noise reduction without any adverse effect on High-Frequency. In addition the foam is not susceptible to UV or moisture damage, giving this product great longevity.

Advanced materials, adhesives and assembly techniques all combine to make the Softie an extremely tough product that provides excellent wind protection in the harshest of environments.

The Softie Windshield can be purchased either on its own, or as part of a Kit, which includes a Windshield, Lyre shock-mount and Pistol-grip.

Softie Windshields come in two varieties of fur length, classic and short hair. The short haired Softie, known as the Camera-Mounted Softie has closely cropped dark grey synthetic fur, offers lower profile and a more compact design without severely altering the efficiency of the Softie. It can also be mounted close to the camera lens without causing unwanted shadows.

Finding the correct slip-on windshield will depend on the type, length and diameter of the microphone. Slip-on windshields are designed for cylindrical shotgun mics, ranging from 19-25 mm in diameter.

For any windshield to work effectively it must cover all the ports on the microphone. Therefore a 12 cm slip-on windshield would be suitable for shotgun microphones, with slots no further than 12 cm from the front of the mic.

The diameter of the microphone is also key, as the fit must be tight in order to achieve a good seal. Rycote slip-on windshields come in two diameter fittings, Standard (19-22 mm) or Large (24-25 mm).

The perfect solution for improving exterior wind attenuation for your microphone. This standard modular windshield, with a body length of 330mm, is designed to provide up to 25dB of wind protection. Made from a flexible grey plastic netting tube with a special screening material attached, this windshield is both lightweight and durable. The twist and turn locking end caps ensure easy, rattle-free and secure fastening. The unique slide-on/slide-off system allows for easy removal of the microphone and suspension, making it convenient for on-the-go recording. The outside diameter of the Mono Windshields is 100mm, while the stereo windshields are 145mm, with the length determined by the microphone used.

Excellent noise reduction and weather durability

The Super-Softie® retains the excellent wind noise reduction of a conventional cavity windshield but allies it to a novel aerodynamic shape and surface structure, and to a material - 3D-Tex™ - which combines excellent acoustic transparency with superb attenuation of wind noise. It has no rigid internal structure, so causes virtually no polar pattern distortion and is extremely robust in challenging environments such as news-gathering.

If it becomes rain-soaked it can be squeezed out and shaken dry very quickly; if it becomes coated with dust it can be rinsed quickly without affecting its performance.

The shape & structure of the Super Softie® allow it to reduce wind noise at extreme LF and infrasonic frequencies - where the greatest wind energy lies - more efficiently than previous designs.

The Modular Windshield 4 Kit is suitable for shotgun microphones from 211mm up to 280mm in length and 19-34mm diameter with a 3-pin XLR connector such as the Sennheiser MKH 416, MKH 60 and Schoeps CMIT 5.

The Mini Windjammer suitable for use over a foam windshield of 50 x 190mm, provides excellent wind isolation for capturing audio in high-wind environments. Made from high-quality synthetic fur specifically designed for wind isolation,  easy-to-fit slip-on fur covers for use when recording outside with the built-in microphones found on portable cameras, external camera mics and handheld reporter microphones.

The windjammer is a high quality synthetic fur-cover, which provides the highest possible protection against extreme wind-noise. When using a windjammer fitted over a windshield up to 50dB of wind-noise attenuation can be achieved, producing excellent standard audio recordings.

Made to offer the wind attenuation properties of a full sized windshield in a much smaller package, the BBG Windshields are designed to slip onto the body of the microphone. This allows the microphone to be hand-held or shock-mounted with a Lyre suspension.

Perfect for short microphones, the BBG Windshield are suitable for low-profile boom applications as well as for use in hand-held operations and interviews. They are widely used for microphones with bulbous ends and ORTF microphone pairs, where the maximum head diameter is 80 mm.

The windshield is constructed of the same material as the full size modular windshields, but rather than clipping to a microphone suspension, the Windshield is mounted directly on the microphone, by a grommet gripping the microphone body. The microphone is pushed through the grommet, to completely enclose the microphone capsule.

The Windshield consists of two halves, which can be separated, to fit microphones with a ball-head or tapered body from inside the windshield. For additional wind protection a furry Windjammer cover is available.
