Description
If you use microphones outdoors regularly, you'll know that wind conditions are often bad enough that a simple foam microphone windshield isn't enough to prevent the sound of the wind disrupting your recordings.

Rycote's larger products, such as the Softie kit or full-scale modular windshields are excellent solutions for larger microphones, but if you only need to protect a small microphone from the wind, such as the built-in mic on a camcorder or handheld digital recorder, you don't need one of these customised, expensive solutions — a Mini Windjammer® will suffice.

These simple, easy-to-fit products are made from synthetic fur designed to absorb the impact of the wind so that it doesn't reach your microphone and are available in a variety of types, with different fur lengths. Some may even be added over the top of the existing foam windshield on a handheld microphone to afford extra protection from the wind.

Device Compatibility

  1. røde VideoMic (Original)
A short shotgun style microphone intended for professional use on hot-shoe equipped cameras. It has a wide bandwidth, low noise and an integral foam windshield. The construction uses an ABS to keep weight very low but retain strength. The powering is via an internal 9V alkaline battery with an expected life of 100hours. The output uses an unbalanced stereo mini-jack. On/off, low-cut and low battery indicator are fitted on the rear panel.
  2. røde VideoMic (w/Lyre)
The RØDE VideoMic is a professional grade 1/2'' condenser shotgun microphone designed for use with consumer video cameras and personal audio recorders.

The integrated Rycote® Lyre® based shock mounting system isolates the VideoMic capsule and electronics from its all-metal shoe mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre® provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions, and will never wear out, sag or snap.

Its standard sized shoe mount also includes a 3/8'' thread in the base for easy mounting on a boom pole or stand.
